About emerald:  Prized since ancient times, a fine emerald can be more expensive than a high quality diamond of the same carat weight.  Emeralds are green members of the popular beryl family of minerals.  Mummies were often buried with emeralds and the gems were popular in ancient Rome.  They have graced Crown Jewels and embellished the thrones of some of the oldest dynasties in history.  In ancient times emeralds held a real fascination for the people.  Emeralds were, in fact, considered to be a cure for many diseases.  As a result of such claims, emeralds were greatly sought after and a profitable trade was established between Egypt and nations as far away as India.  Emerald symbolism encompasses not only royalty but also wit, eloquence, and foresight. Emeralds are the birthstone for May.

About Turquoise:  The name turquoise means "Turkish stone" because the trade route that brought it to Europe came via Turkey. Turquoise is a non-translucent stone of which the most valuable specimens are robin's egg blue or deep-blue azure.  It also comes in brown, yellow, and many shades of green. The veins are inclusions from nearby rock fragments or oxides that form during the creation of turquoise.

Turquoise, the gemstone worn by pharaohs and Aztec kings, is probably one of the oldest gemstones known. Native Americans and many of the Indian tribes in Mexico used turquoise for currency, and the stone is still associated with the religious rites of the Navajo. Because it remains fashionable, turquoise is quite highly prized, although it is fairly plentiful.

About Grandidierite: Originally discovered in Madagascar, grandidierite was named after explorer, Alfred Gradidier in 1902. Grandidierite is rare and only found within a couple areas and classifies as the 3rd most expensive stone in the world. Due to its rareness, its metaphysical properties are yet to be discovered. Some think grandidierite influences the heart and throat chakras.

FAQ

What is this jewelry made of?

I use quality sterling silver, 14k gold fill and 14k gold.  Occasionally I throw in some bronze, copper or brass.  I use all natural gemstones, some have been treated to enhance color.

About 14k gold fill: 14K gold filled wire is a professional jewelers grade wire. Gold filled wire is not plated. It is a tube of solid 14K gold mechanically bonded to a brass or silver base. There is 100 times more gold in gold filled than in gold plate wire. This layer of gold must be a minimum of 1/20th of the total metal weight to be called gold filled. The color looks exactly like 14k gold. It is tarnish-resistant, safe for sensitive skin and unlike gold plate, it will not wear off. It is a great way to enjoy affordable gold jewelry.
