About Topaz: The ancient Greeks believed that topaz had the ability to increase strength and to make the wearer invisible, while the Romans wore it to improve eyesight and the Egyptians to protect them from injury. The Egyptians also believed that topaz was given its golden glow by the sun god Ra. During the Middle Ages, topaz was used to treat ailments such as depression and anxiety and to ward off disease. Topaz in also believed to alleviate sadness and melancholy, reduce high blood pressure, ease the pain of arthritis and improve digestions. It can also improve artistic creativity and increase the wearer’s appreciation of beauty. Topaz is also known as “the lover of gold,” for its reputed ability to attract money and wealth.

The name topaz comes from the Sanskrit word meaning fire. Pure topaz is colorless and transparent, though it often contains small impurities. More commonly, topaz is yellow, red, gray, orange or brown. Imperial topaz is pink, yellow or orange and is often treated to make its color lighter pink, bright yellow or violet.

FAQ

What is this jewelry made of?

I use quality sterling silver, 14k gold fill and 14k gold.  Occasionally I throw in some bronze, copper or brass.  I use all natural gemstones, some have been treated to enhance color.

About 14k gold fill: 14K gold filled wire is a professional jewelers grade wire. Gold filled wire is not plated. It is a tube of solid 14K gold mechanically bonded to a brass or silver base. There is 100 times more gold in gold filled than in gold plate wire. This layer of gold must be a minimum of 1/20th of the total metal weight to be called gold filled. The color looks exactly like 14k gold. It is tarnish-resistant, safe for sensitive skin and unlike gold plate, it will not wear off. It is a great way to enjoy affordable gold jewelry.

Are these pieces really handmade?
