About pearls: Throughout history, the pearl, with its warm inner glow and shimmering iridescence, has been one of the most highly prized and sought after gems. In ancient Rome, pearls were considered the ultimate symbol of wealth and social standing. The Greeks held the pearl in high esteem for both its unrivaled beauty and its association with love and marriage. Pearls are the birthstone for June.

What is a cultured pearl? An oyster or mollusk is artificially "seeded" with a tiny grain of sand or other object. The mollusk then excretes a coating to protect itself from the irritant. Several layers are accreted, creating a real pearl.

About carnelian:  A bright orange, reddish-orange, or reddish-brown colored gemstone from the Quartz family. Carnelian has a long and storied past, and was once considered strictly the property of the noble class. People holding a high social status were often buried with this gem stone.  Carnelian (also sometimes referred to as cornelian) is found primarily in India, as well as various sites in South America.  Carnelian nourishes and vitalizes your entire being, bestowing optimism and enthusiasm for life.

About Sunstone:  Sunstone, also called Heliolite, is the State Gem of Oregon, a prime source for this beautiful gem. The name Heliolite has been derived from the Greek 'helios' and 'lithos,' which mean 'sun' and 'stone'.  Sunstone is metallic in appearance and comes in red, orange or green colors.  Sunstone is formed in molten lava and is discharged onto the surface with the help of a volcano. The lava weathers away or is broken. Fine crystals of sunstone is then released. The Oregon sunstone is found with copper in it which is the cause for the range of colors in the stone from water color to yellow and many shades of green, red and pink.  In ancient times, this stone was used by natives for barter. It was also believed by the Vikings to be a talisman for navigation.
