About Picture Jasper: Jasper is an opaque and fine grained variety of Chalcedony. It is found in all colors including: red, brown, pink, yellow, green, grey/white and shades of blue and purple. It often contains organic material and mineral oxides which give it interesting patterns, bands and colors. Many of these patterns resemble landscapes with mountains and valleys, thus the name "picture" is part of the name of many well know jaspers. Jasper was a favorite gem in ancient times and is referenced in Greek, Hebrew, Assyrian and Latin literature. Found worldwide, a wide variety of named jaspers is found in the western areas of the Unites States; California, Oregon, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming and Washington. Picture jasper is a petrified or silicated mud that dripped into gas pockets in molten lava. It became superheated and then solidified forming the unusual banded patterns which are typical of this stone.
About Mookaite: Mookaite is an Australian Jasper of bold, earthy beauty with a fiery fusion of red and yellow energies. Mookaite Jasper is found only in the Kennedy Ranges of Western Australia in outcroppings near Mooka Creek, the area for which it is named. The Aboriginal term “Mooka” means “running waters” and refers to the numerous springs that feed into this area. Mookaite promotes an ageless spirit willing to accept change and seek new experiences, and awakens one’s natural instincts in knowing the right direction to take.
About Hessonite: Hessonite belongs to the grossularite garnet group. While most grossularite garnet is green, hessonite typically has a orange-brown color which has earned it the nickname cinnamon stone. One of the reasons that hessonite garnet is historically important is that it has a special place in the Vedic astrological tradition.
A note on 'Hill Tribe Silver': Silver work from the Karen Hill Tribe of Northern Thailand. They are hand-made and contain a higher amount of silver (95 - 99 percent) than in sterling silver (92.5 percent). The higher silver content makes the silver more malleable for higher detail, and means they will not tarnish as quickly. Most pieces are oxidized intentionally to create a three-dimensional look. No two pieces are exactly the same because of the hand-crafted quality. They incorporate centuries old techniques known only to them.
