There is just something about this color palette. Pale sage turquoise, sunstone, & rutilated quartz are strung together. Southwestern goodness. Finished with a lobster clasp and adjustable length chain closure. Measures 7 1/4-8". Sterling silver, which has been oxidized and hand polished for an antique finish.

Rutilated quartz is a clear quartz stone with rutile enclosures. Rutile is a mineral that is made up mostly of titanium dioxide, or TiO2. When rutile appears within quartz, creating rutilated quartz, it often appears as needles of included color. In some gorgeous examples, rutilated quartz looks as if it is filled with gold fibers. The effect is uniquely beautiful. Venus hair stone, Fleches d’amour, and Cupid’s darts are also names associated with rutilated quartz. These stones are thought to stimulate your spiritual creativity, and your ability to manifest what you desire in your life, through the power of intention.

About Turquoise:  The name turquoise means "Turkish stone" because the trade route that brought it to Europe came via Turkey. Turquoise is a non-translucent stone of which the most valuable specimens are robin's egg blue or deep-blue azure.  It also comes in brown, yellow, and many shades of green. The veins are inclusions from nearby rock fragments or oxides that form during the creation of turquoise.

Turquoise, the gemstone worn by pharaohs and Aztec kings, is probably one of the oldest gemstones known. Native Americans and many of the Indian tribes in Mexico used turquoise for currency, and the stone is still associated with the religious rites of the Navajo. Because it remains fashionable, turquoise is quite highly prized, although it is fairly plentiful.

About Sunstone:  Sunstone, also called Heliolite, is the State Gem of Oregon, a prime source for this beautiful gem. The name Heliolite has been derived from the Greek 'helios' and 'lithos,' which mean 'sun' and 'stone'.  Sunstone is metallic in appearance and comes in red, orange or green colors.  Sunstone is formed in molten lava and is discharged onto the surface with the help of a volcano. The lava weathers away or is broken. Fine crystals of sunstone is then released. The Oregon sunstone is found with copper in it which is the cause for the range of colors in the stone from water color to yellow and many shades of green, red and pink.  In ancient times, this stone was used by natives for barter. It was also believed by the Vikings to be a talisman for navigation.

FAQ

What is this jewelry made of?

I use quality sterling silver, 14k gold fill and 14k gold.  Occasionally I throw in some bronze, copper or brass.  I use all natural gemstones, some have been treated to enhance color.

About 14k gold fill: 14K gold filled wire is a professional jewelers grade wire. Gold filled wire is not plated. It is a tube of solid 14K gold mechanically bonded to a brass or silver base. There is 100 times more gold in gold filled than in gold plate wire. This layer of gold must be a minimum of 1/20th of the total metal weight to be called gold filled. The color looks exactly like 14k gold. It is tarnish-resistant, safe for sensitive skin and unlike gold plate, it will not wear off. It is a great way to enjoy affordable gold jewelry.
